Tailgatin’ December 30, 2008

Thought I’d post a few pic’s from Sunday’s game. No rain and the temp. was in the mid 50’s. Pretty sweet for a football game in the end of December. The Jets didn’t fare as well as we hoped but Derek still did get to see Brett Favre play in person (even though it wasn’t his best effort, but hey he’s hurtin’ a bit right?) Still does alright for an “old dude”
Steak ala Meadowlands
the “D”meister
Favre in action
Perfection
Even though the Jets lost it was still well worth the trip to NYC. Cyndi Lauper sang the national anthem ( quite well actually
) and aside from some pretty crappy calls by the officials we had a great time and got to see what maybe was Favre’s last game?
Who knows

Derek is getting an early birthday present and I get to go cause i’m driving
Off to the Meadowlands to see the NY Jets vs. the Miami Dolphins….. If the Jets win and the Patriots lose the Jets win the division and go to the playoffs. If the Jets win and the Patriots win and the Ravens lose the Jets get the wildcard.
If the Jets win and the Patriots and Ravens both win, oh well, it will still be a good time with the boy and Derek gets to see his “Favre-orite” player Brett Favre in action.

Ahhhh, the day after Christmas. No really, we had a great Christmas. Truly blessed. Happy kids, pleasant visits with family and Aunt Jonnie’s turkey stuffing ( i don’t know what she does but there is none better )
Sitting here watching the sun come up looking at the tree lights drinking a cup of coffee. Life is good

So here we go with another installment of Christmas music that you won’t hear on the radio this season…..
The first is one of my favorites:
Jethro Tull “A Christmas Song”
Once in Royal David’s City stood a lonely cattle shed,
where a mother held her baby.
You’d do well to remember the things He later said.
When you’re stuffing yourselves at the Christmas parties,
you’ll just laugh when I tell you to take a running jump.
You’re missing the point I’m sure does not need making
that Christmas spirit is not what you drink.
So how can you laugh when your own mother’s hungry,
and how can you smile when the reasons for smiling are wrong?
And if I just messed up your thoughtless pleasures,
remember, if you wish, this is just a Christmas song…..
Jethro Tull “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen”

15So when they had finished breakfast, Jesus said* to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love Me more than these?” He said* to Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I love You.” He said* to him, “Tend My lambs.” 16He said* to him again a second time, “Simon, son of John, do you love Me?” He said* to Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I love You.” He said* to him, “Shepherd My sheep.” 17He said* to him the third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love Me?” Peter was grieved because He said to him the third time, “Do you love Me?” And he said to Him, “Lord, You know all things; You know that I love You.” Jesus said* to him, “Tend My sheep.
John 21:15-18 NASB
Peter had disowned Jesus three times. Three times Jesus asked Peter if he loved him. When Peter answered yes, Jesus told him to feed his sheep. It is one thing to say you love Jesus, but the real test is actually doing it. Peter had repented, and here Jesus was asking him to commit his life. Peter’s life changed when he finally realized who Jesus was. His occupation changed from fisherman to evangelist and his relationship to Jesus changed, from one who had denied him to one who was forgiven.
Peter had boasted that he would never forsake Jesus but he did just the opposite ( hmmm, this sounds familiar
) he denied Jesus three times. As a consequence, Jesus asked Peter three times, Do you love Me? Each time Peter told Jesus, “I love you,” Jesus told Peter to care for his flock.
Like Peter, Jesus can help us grasp this most valuable life lesson. We must learn humility before we can obtain leadership. Like us, Peter needed to confront his shortcomings before he could guide the flock.

Don’t get me wrong, there are some VERY good versions of some Christmas songs out there. It’s just that the radio stations around these parts can’t seem to find them…
Thought I’d post a few out of the ordinary versions of some over the next couple of weeks…
Enjoy

Jesus said, “So, you believe because you’ve seen with your own eyes. Even better blessings are in store for those who believe without seeing.”
John 20:29 the Message
“They say seeing is believing” & “Well, now I’ve seen everything” are just a couple of the modern day quotes that come to mind when I read this part of this chapter.
Let’s take a look at some definitions….
Belief - A statement, principle, or doctrine that a person or group accepts as true…
Beleive – To have confidence in the truth, the existence, or the reliability of something…
Believer – A person who gives credit to the truth of the Scriptures, as a revelation from God. Someone who receives Christ as their Savior and accepts salvation as described in the bible…
Some people think that they would belive in Jesus if they could only be shown a “sign” as real proof of His existance. Jesus was referring to Thomas in this chapter when he questioned the sighting of Jesus saying “Unless I see the nail holes in his hands, put my finger in the nail holes, and stick my hand in his side, I won’t believe it.”
If doubt leads to questions, questions lead to answers, and the answers are accepted, then doubt has done good work. It is when doubt becomes stubbornness and stubbornness becomes a lifestyle that doubt harms faith. When you doubt, don’t stop there. Let your doubt deepen your faith as you continue to search for the answer…
Some things have to be believed to be seen.
How is your unbelief today?

In researching this verse I came across the following information. I thought it was too good to pass up…
“TETELESTAI” (IT IS FINISHED) John 19:30
Tetelestai is in the perfect tense in Greek. It speaks of an action which has been completed in the past with results continuing into the present. It’s different from the past tense which looks back to an event and says, “This happened.” The perfect tense adds the idea that “This happened and it is still in effect today.”
When Jesus cried out “It is finished” He meant “It was finished in the past, it is still finished in the present and it will remain finished in the future.”
Tetelestai is the Savior’s final cry of victory. When he died, he left no unfinished business behind.
What sin is keeping you from God today?
All your sins have been stamped by God “TETELESTAI” PAID IN FULL…
