John 11:6 NASB

Therefore Thomas, who is called Didymus, said to his fellow disciples, “Let us also go, so that we may die with Him.”

This really got my attention as I was reading this chapter.  One thing I noticed was a great deal of doubt among the disciples about the trip to Bethany and then right in the middle of it was this statement of absolute courage and faith.

This is the same Thomas that would later doubt Jesus’ resurrection, yet at this moment was willing to risk death.

How is it that we can be sure one moment and doubt the next, even after HIS glory is revealed to us?

Jesus is the life giver in all circumstances and we must learn to trust HIM always.

I wish I could answer this question, but I don’t know. I often do question myself in this…How can I know what I know, believe what I believe and still at times make such horrible choices…why do I doubt the One who without a doubt can do anything?

All I have on this is…thank you Jesus, that you forgive my doubting, and that you let me “fall on the grace that first brought me to you”.

You have given me lots to think about today…I want to believe not doubt. love you!

Scott – I am still learning to trust!

Good question. The same bit jumped out at me.

Kind of reminds me of the time Peter declared “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God!” and then Jesus begins teaching them of His death and Peter says, “God forbid! This must not happen to you.”

The first declaration got Peter a commendation from the Lord: God revealed this to you. The second exclamation received a rebuke: Satan, get behind me.

All in a very short distance, possibly even the same day, Peter was used of God and of the devil. Very sobering.

Makes me want to stay on the alert.

Thanks, Scott. In a few words you sure say a LOT!!

Excellent question, and I don;t really have an answer. I have often wondered at the same duplicity in my own heart and life. It reminds of times when in a worship service I have promised God to go anywhere in the world He might send me with the good news of Jesus Christ, only to balk at sharing my faith with my neighbors across the street.

Darla – I’m the king of horrible choices  Praying for His grace to cover us all. Love you!!!

Papa – We’ll get it.

Michelle – That happens to me all the time. Can we ever be too alert?
I don’t think so.

Joe – I struggle with that as well. Praying that we all would be so bold.

How is it that we can be sure one moment and doubt the next, even after HIS glory is revealed to us?

ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmm…. ahhhhhhhhhh… errrrrrrrrrrr… hmmmmmmmmm…. I am sorry what was the question.

I like what Joe said about worship. I will spin it a bit different. When I stand in worship and mumble through a song just cause I don’t like it that much. God wants us to give him our all, even when it is stuff we don’t like to do. I tend to doubt him when he has put me in a situation I don’t want to be in, or doing something I don’t want to do.

ahhhhh Carl that is a good point, and I never thought about it like that…now I am…mmmmm

Interesting! I actually read that verse entirely differently. I read it as a sarcastic, “Of course! Jesus wants to go to Jerusalem, even though there are people trying to kill him! Why would we play it safe?? Don’t ask us what we think!?! Nope. C’mon, folks, we might as well die right along with him.” (I tried to give that the flavor I hear … don’t know if it worked.) I wonder which way is meant? This sentence stuck out at me too … I was thinking of taking a bunny trail and looking at passages about Thomas. But I didn’t. I wonder …

Your conclusions are great, though, Scott, given the idea presented. Losing the fire … forgetting in the darkness what we’ve heard in the light … All valid points. Very provoking. Thanks for the new spin!
