 Parable of the Good Shepherd

1“Truly, truly, I say to you, he who does not enter by the door into the fold of the sheep, but climbs up some other way, he is a thief and a robber. 2“But he who enters by the door is a shepherd of the sheep. 3“To him the doorkeeper opens, and the sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. 4“When he puts forth all his own, he goes ahead of them, and the sheep follow him because they know his voice. 5“A stranger they simply will not follow, but will flee from him, because they do not know the voice of strangers.” (NASB)

It is said that shepherds in the East could name each sheep and that each sheep would respond to the shepherd calling its name. True believers, as sheep belonging to the true Shepherd, would never follow someone pretending to be their shepherd.

1 John 4:1  Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. (NASB)

Personally, I hope to be able to recognize His voice.  How about you?

Joe, I laughed this morning when I saw what Praise put up! it is funny yet true in the light of the end of times, when our God will grab the enemy by the throat and throw him in the lake of fire..I love having a shepherd, its not always easy on my flesh, but more dying to me is what it is all about…baaabaaabaaa I am sheep in HIS flock!

There is a lot of truth in that picture… ;)

Jesus the shepard, will call us home soon. He will call us all by name.

Very simple yet powerful and true Scoot.

How to recognize his voice? That is so simple!!! talk to him constantly and get familiar with him by listening back and staying very close to him. Don’t make him have to hollar from a distance!!

My earthly father died in 1980 – if he called on the phone today i’d still recognize his voice – we were close! then i’d pass out!!!

Papa~You are so funny :) Thank you for that though; I needed something to make me smile; missing my Dad a lot today. Love you.

Scott~The picture is hilarious! I was saying this on Michelle’s blog, that how unworthy am I, and yet, He chose me. Me. Lil ole insignificant me. I know I will recognize His voice. I’ve known His voice since the day He saved me and called me His daughter. Like Papa said, if we know and recognize our earthly father’s voices, how much more will we recognize our Heavenly Father’s voice?

Lots of love to you Dorito man! :)

Scott … love it. Simple. Concise. Powerful. Why do we feel the need to write a thesis? lol. His voice … I’m getting to know it better all the time. Seems slow going sometimes, but He seems to never give up. I’m glad of that.
